This is a more flexible Kruger National Park drive, which is approximately 10-11 hours long. We aim to visit as many different habitats as possible, in order to see as much as we can, in the Open Safari Vehicle. Vegetation plays a major role, in what species you will see during your open vehicle game drive. It is important to get an early start, because most of the animals are more active in the early mornings, before the day heats up. As soon as there’s a hint of daybreak, they’re up and going about their daily business.
If you’re early enough, you may be lucky to see some of the nocturnal animals returning from their night’s forage for food, or even predators on a fresh kill. Animals don’t stick to a rule book though and the unexpected is what makes every drive an exceptional one.
Typically we meet at Crocodile Bridge-/ Malelane gates (OR any of the Southern Camps / -Gates of the Kruger National Park) and start our journey from there, when the entry gates open. Pick-ups at accommodation can be arranged anywhere along the southern Parts of Kruger, including Marloth Park, Komatipoort and Malelane.
Please note that it can be as early as 05:00 am in Summer months and 06:00 am in Winter (times vary according to season). Times will be confirmed when bookings are made. When entering at Crocodile Bridge Gate, for example, we take a leisurely drive up to Lower Sabie, where we have a breakfast/refreshment break of approximately an hour. After breakfast we resume our drive to one of Kruger’s camps for Lunch, hopefully enjoying many unexpected and wonderful sightings on our trip.
We will stop at various picnic sites, for refreshment breaks along the way. After lunch we slowly make our way back to Crocodile Bridge and end our open safari vehicle game drive in the late afternoon. You may see the Big 5 and special sightings like Cheetah, Wild dog and Black rhino, on occasion.
Plains’ game like Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Kudu, Impala and Warthogs are normally in abundance. There are also special birds like the Martial eagle, Secretary bird, Kori bustard, Verraux’s eagle Owl, Ground hornbill and many others, that make their appearance from time to time.
Although we operate mostly in the south eastern and Central parts of Kruger, we are not limited to it and special requests are welcome.
*** Please note that a minimum of 2 people (Adult rates) are required to book a drive.
